Tree services don't require a contractor's license as seen here.
Since we don't currently service the Michigan City area, we aren't required to be registered here. Which is a great source to verify other tree services claim to have a license here.
If other businesses claim to be fully licensed and situations are similar to those listed above, they may be lying, and it might be prudent to consider what other credentials or requirements they may not have.

Our drivers are required to posses the appropriate vehicle operating license for the type of vehicle they are operating. For some vehicles this is a "CDL" and for others it is a "For Hire Endorsement"(chauffeur's license).
